Basic German biscuits-cake recipe for pastry

250 g flour
125 g sugar
125 g butter I prefer unsalted for baking
1 egg
Vanilla sugar - this I got lots as my German guest always bring me some so I can give you a few packs
You know how to do pastry other things
For the Christmas biscuits that I glue with jam and dust with icing sugar I mix the dry ingredients flour and ground hazel nuts about 70-30 depending what I got
They bake very fast in 10 minutes at 190 degrees for fan assisted oven
Best to do them thin if you are doing the ham glue of three
For the snow men icing that every body loved I use the pastry without nuts
Icing put some icing sugar in a bowl and slowly add lemon/lime juice to make a running paste to brush over the biscuits it looks like snow but using lime juice is not so sweet
Then for snow men I paving the eyes nose and mouth with melted chocolate                        

Ps for apple cakes I use self raising flour but if I do not want the biscuit to be very puff I use plain flour or mix both some times to use up what I got                        

I guess I do not follow recipes but I like to read them and now I find many can be improved but the main thing is many English recipes have too much sugar compared with the German
